National Development and Reform Commission approved the Feasibility Report on Application for Adjusting Dali-Ruili Railway Construction which is proposed by China Railway Corporation and Yunnan provincial government on September 4, marking that the construction of Mangshi-Ruili railway, which is a part of Dali-Ruili railway, had entered a substantive stage.

The approval document explains that National Development and Reform Commission approves the adjustment scheme of total investment and construction content concerning Dali-Ruili railway, in an attempt to step up the railway construction and support the economic development of Yunan. With its total length reaching 330 kilometers and a designed speed of 140 kilometers per hour, the adjusted Dali-Ruili railway will be completed in 7 years. 20% of the total investment, which amounts to 25.73 billion yuan, will come from China central government, 15% will come from Yunnan provincial government, 220 million yuan will come from bank loans and the others will come from social funds raised by China Railway Corporation.

Dehong Railway Construction Office is now cooperating with China Railway Second Institute Group to do technical researches, coordinating with China Southern Power Grid to arrange electricity offer, and preparing the open tendering for design, building, installation and so on.

Dali-Ruili railway will be the last part of China-Myanmar international railway. After its completion, it will just take five hours to go through the 700 kilometers from Kunming to Ruili by train. More importantly, the status of Yunnan as a gateway open to south Asia and southeast Asia will become more prominent, which will exert an important and profound influence on the social and economic development of regions alongside the railway, boost exchanges and communications between China and south Asian countries, change the transportation pattern of western part of Yunnan, and ensure the safety of China-Myanmar strategic energy import passageway.
